VASCO: Goa First, a voluntary organisation recently lodged a complaint on Swachh Bharat portal about the bad living conditions of people residing behind Shafi Masjid in Baina.
Attaching photos of overflowing gutters in front of residential houses, Parshuram Sonurlekar, representing Goa First, said people are forced to live in unhygienic conditions.
He said since the complaint has been directly registered in Delhi, the authorities will direct the officials here to take action.
“The houses lack a sewage system. Also, construction debris of highway and flyover work finds a way here. Water used for domestic purposes is kept open. Residents are exposed to infectious diseases,” Sonurlekar said.
The area, where mostly migrants reside, is full of filth as waste is dumped in the open.
“So many activities are carried out by civic bodies as part of Swachh Bharat but here you see the contrast,” he said, adding, “Though Mormugao Municipal Council conducted cleanliness drives, slum areas have been left out.”
