SALIGAO: A candlelight protest was held at Pilerne on Tuesday demanding that the recent death of the teenager, whose body was found on the shores of Calangute beach, be investigated properly and that justice be given to her and her family. The meeting commenced at Mandani in Pilerne and culminated near the St John the Baptist Church, Pilerne .
Organised by the youth and villagers of Pilerne-Marra, the participants criticised the government and the state’s investigative machinery for failing to ensure justice.
Pointing out to a number of errors in the investigation, a local youth, Yatish Naik, also raised questions on the overall procedure of the inquiry. He said that such incidents tarnish the image of the state and called upon the police to conduct a thorough inquiry without succumbing to any kind of pressure.
Parish priest of St John the Baptist Church Fr Derick Ferandes said that no one’s voice should be stifled in this case.
