Goa: Chris Perry’s son files Rs 100 crore defamation suit against Lorna Cordeiro

PANAJI: Glenn Perry, the son of legendary Goan musician Chris Perry, has filed a Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit against singer Lorna Cordeiro and musician Ronnie Monsorate in a Panaji court.

Glenn, a New York-based musician, is also seeking a permanent injunction restraining Lorna and Monsorate from making any statements or giving any interviews against Chris Perry or his family members.

Glenn alleged that false stories are tarnishing his father’s legacy and reputation, and added that these have hurt the feelings of family and relatives, and have brought down his father’s image in the eyes and minds of numerous people, friends, relatives and fans.

He alleged that the defendants want to ride to fame on the reputation of his father.

When asked why the defamation suit was filed now after all these years, he said, “The narrative has been mostly one-sided all these years. We have had patience since 1995. This is affecting me and my brothers. We want to clear his name”.

In his petition, Glenn stated that he was constrained and compelled to move court due to the “malicious, well planned and concocted charade orchestrated by the defendants against the late father of the plaintiff, ie, Chris Perry, with the sole motive and common intension to defame and vilify the late Chris Perry”.

Glenn said that Chris Perry was indeed a public figure and that the “fallacious and concocted statements made by the defendants on the personal and professional life of Chris Perry have injured his reputation, legacy and has far-reaching consequences for him and his heirs”.

“By destroying the hard-earned reputation of Chris Perry and by depicting him in bad light in the public eye, the defendants have clearly defamed the late Chris Perry and harmed his legacy, reputation as also the reputation of his family in the eyes of the public and fans, and have lowered the estimation of the late Chris Perry in the public eye,” the petition further stated.

Glenn stated that his Chris Perry was an exceptionally-gifted trumpeter who revolutionised the Konkani music scene and has been credited with introducing jazz into Konkani music. “The defendants have painted the pot black by hiding the truth and suggesting false facts with wrong intentions to harm and tarnish the reputation of the late Chris Perry for their personal gains,” the petition states. “It has seriously affected the name, fame, legacy and goodwill of the late Chris Perry which was gained through decades of hard work and dedication and hurt the feelings and sentiments of the family.”
