Goa: Changing winds cause temperature to drop

PANAJI: A fall in minimum temperature has been reported over Panaji, as the wind directions in the lower level of atmosphere changed from easterlies to northerly components. Minimum temperature of 20°C was reported on Friday, while 19.6°C was recorded on Thursday as against the normal value. A dense fog has been prevailing in rural areas owing to changes in the weather.

“The minimum temperature was largely on the lower side, but the fall was insignificant in Panaji. There was, however, a formation of fog in the city. There is a possibility of light fog on Saturday as well,” scientist at the India meteorological department (IMD), Rahul M said.

Figures shared by the IMD revealed that the lowest-ever minimum temperature in January recorded in Panaji was 14.4°C on January 1, 1991. This year, the lowest temperature so far in Panaji has been 17.2°C on January 12. The average of minimum temperatures from January 1 to 31 in 2022 is 3.7°C less than that of 2021.

“There is going to be a gradual rise in minimum temperature, but it may take three to four days for a rise by one or two degrees. This is not a significant rise. The weather pattern will see no large changes in the days to come,” Rahul said.

The IMD has also forecast partly cloudy skies but it won’t result in rain.
