PANAJI: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has said that for the upcoming academic year 2022-23, the full syllabus will be in force for Classes IX to XII. Earlier, the Board had truncated the syllabus for these classes by up to 30% from the academic year 2020-21. The syllabus had been curtailed to reduce pressure on children due to the pandemic.
The Board has, however, said that the special assessment scheme introduced for students of Class X and XII has been extended to the year 2022-23.
“The syllabus for Classes IX to XII academic year 2022-23 will be entire as in force prior to curtailed syllabus of the year 2020-21. This supersedes circular dated July 8, 2021. The detailed weightage to the content in the subjects and syllabus for first term and second term examinations will slightly vary and the same will follow shortly,” the Board has said.
The Board had curtailed the syllabus to reduce anxiety among students, parents and teachers as there had been delay in start of the academic year 2020-21 as the pandemic had disrupted academic schedules.
The Board for the upcoming academic year will, however, continue with its special assessment scheme for Class X and XII students, which had been introduced last year based on recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The scheme divides the academic year into two terms, and both the term end exams are conducted by the Board and not the schools.
This is meant to reduce pressure on students of answering and scoring in a single public exam.
As per the scheme, in the first terminal exams, students are assessed based on multiple choice questions, while the second term consists of assessments based on subjective questions.
Besides the two terminal exams, internal assessments are conducted throughout the year for Class X and XII students.
