PANAJI: With the model code of conduct coming into force for the state assembly election scheduled for February 14, district magistrates of North and South Goa have banned the sale of liquor after 11pm. The order issued on Friday will remain operationl till the code of conduct is in force.
The order, issued under Section 144 (1) of the CrPC, stated that the sale of liquor at bars, pubs, shacks, shops, clubs, provision stores or any establishment be stopped every day at 11pm.
The establishments will be able to remain and operate after 11pm to offer other services, but will not be able to serve liquor after the deadline.
Any violation can be reported to the office of the respective district magistrate.
The order will not be applicable to bars or shops that do not have a licence to remain open till 11pm. With flying squads constituted to act against violations pertaining to election code of conduct, police and excise officials have been directed to ensure that order is complied with.
