PANAJI: Goa reported eight mortalities and 221 new Covid-19 infections with a positivity rate of 7.7% on Monday.
Six of the deceased were unvaccinated, including a 42-year-old from Vasco, while two of them were double-vaccinated.
There were 24 hospitalisations with 197 persons put in home isolation over the past 24 hours. 28 people were discharged, while 500 persons recovered. Active cases are currently at 4,377.
GMC dean Dr S Bandekar said there are 15 Covid patients in ICU at Goa Medical College, of which only three are vaccinated.
“The three have severe Covid, however, the others who are unvaccinated don’t have severe Covid but other comorbidities like chronic kidney failure,” Bandekar said.
Majority of the deaths during this wave have been among the elderly who are unvaccinated, he said.
