Goa: 107 new Covid cases, 2 fatalities

PANAJI: Goa’s caseload of Covid-19 cases marginally rose to 886 after 107 fresh infections were reported. Two fatalities on Tuesday took the toll to 3,298.

Two men, a 70-year-old from Sawantwadi and a 54-year-old from Reis Magos, both having comorbidities, died at Goa Medical College.

Twenty patients were hospitalised and seven discharged during the day.

While the case positivity rate was still below 5%, a health officer said that it was a matter of concern that certain areas were witnessing a rise in infections.

“Though some rise was expected after Ganesh Chaturthi, it needs to be seen how high it goes. Some people seem to have discarded their masks after vaccination,” the health officer said.

On Tuesday, Margao’s active caseload increased to 110. Ponda also reported a rise though its count is still below 50.

In North Goa, Porvorim’s tally rose to 68. Coastal centres of Candolim as well as Siolim also reported a small rise.
