GO Outdoors to reopen Bristol branch tomorrow

Adventurers looking to equip themselves for their lockdown trips will be able to stock up at a Bristol branch of GO Outdoors.

The retail chain, which sells outdoor clothing, cycling, camping and leisure gear, has announced its Brislington store will be reopening tomorrow (Saturday, May 16).

It has two branches in the city, with the other situated at Cribbs Causeway, but it is not yet clear if that store will also reopen tomorrow.

The chain confirmed the branch, in Tramway Road, will be open to customers from 10am on Saturday.

A statement circulated ahead of the reopening read: "New measures will be in place to keep our staff and customers safe.

"There you’ll find our wide range of bicycles for all the family, as well as our usual offering of outdoor equipment, so whatever you're planning we're here for you."

GO Outdoors has detailed five ways in which the shopping experience has been adapted:

  1. The number of shoppers will be limited and customers have been asked to "excuse any queues there may be as a result"
  2. There will also be "clear and visible social distancing guidance" throughout the store
  3. Frequent cleaning and disinfecting of the stores will be carried out by staff throughout the day
  4. Perspex screens have also been introduced at the checkouts to act as a barrier between staff and customers
  5. Browsing is discouraged and customers have been asked to come into store only if they intend to buy something

The statement explained: "We kindly ask that if you come to the store it's for purchase only, and where possible you should limit the amount of time spent browsing."

Although the closure order on non-essential shops still applies, there are exceptions to the rule - including hardware shops and bicycle shops.

B&Q, Wickes and Homebase are among other retailers exempt from the closures that have already started to reopen stores, as well as garden centres.

The relaxed lockdown rules, which came into force on Wednesday, allow for more outdoor adventures - including trips to beaches and picnics in parks.

GO Outdoors has been asked to clarify when its Cribbs branch will be open again.
