Go North East introduces cut-price evening fares in a bid to boost night time economy

The region's largest bus operator has launched a new cut-price ticket to get people out and about and supporting local restaurants and pubs.

After the success of the government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme, Go North East is launching their new scheme ‘Bus Out to Help Out’.

The new offer benefits commuters and members of the public travelling after 7pm at night.

The offer covers two people who can now travel for the price of one when buying Go North East’s after 7pm £3.50 evening ticket.

It also a new offer for groups of four who can now travel for just £6.50 with the evening group ticket.

Last month, the bus company announced it would be increasing its service from Saturday, September 5, to their normal evening and Sunday frequencies.

Martijn Gilbert, Go North East’s managing director, said: “It’s great to see that the Government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ initiative has been so popular and we want to also help out by introducing an offer of our own that supports the economy of our towns and cities.

“By introducing this buy one get one free initiative and increasing our evening services back to 100%, we hope that it will help encourage people to get out and about on an evening, let us do the driving and help support their local restaurants and pubs.”

Recently the bus company announced they invested £4.5 million into a fleet of new luxury Consett buses.

The tickets can be bought in advance on the Go North East app or on the bus as you board, with contactless the preferred payment option.
