Go North East bus comes off the road in County Durham

Go North East has confirmed there were no injuries following an incident involving a double-decker bus yesterday afternoon.

Dramatic scenes appeared to show a tilted bus on a grass verge after it came of the road in County Durham at around 4.30pm on Thursday.

The incident occurred on Waldridge Lane, near Chester-le-Street, and passengers wishing to travel were advised to use board their bus at Sacriston or Waldridge Estate.

It is understood the road remained closed for around an hour while recovery took place and emergency services attended the scene.

And it has since been confirmed that everybody onboard, including the driver, were able to get off the vehicle safely.

Stephen King, commercial director at Go North East, said: "Go North East service 25 ran aground on the grass verge as it travelled along Waldridge Lane at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon which resulted in the bus getting stuck.

"Everyone on board got off the bus safely, including the driver, and the bus was recovered and taken back to the depot."
