Go kart warning after PSNI stop child driving one on public road

Police have issued a plea to parents over go karts after a child was stopped driving one on a public road.

Officers in Fermanagh and Omagh said they "don't want to have to knock on a parent's door to deliver the worst possible sort of news".

They have warned that they "shouldn't be used out in the roads" in a plea on safety.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "We can understand people enjoying go karts, but ones like this need a licence and insurance etc and certainly shouldn’t be used out in the roads.

"Sadly we have all seen too many deaths and serious injuries on our roads, imagine how safe the person on this would have been if they crashed into another car?" they asked.

"Thankfully officers from Mid Tyrone Neighbourhood Team were able to discuss this with the parents of the child who had been out on the road in this before a tragedy did happen. The public road isn’t the place to be racing these on.

"We don’t want to have to knock on a parents door and deliver the worst possible sort of news."
