Dundee’s fleet of hi-tech electric buses have taken to the streets for the first time in 2022.
The 12 Xplore Dundee buses were deployed on service 28 serving Lochee this week.
The company revealed the route is among the five most polluted streets in Scotland when bosses announced plans last year.
The unveiling of the £7million fleet last year followed on from Xplore Dundee’s acquisition by Sandy and James Easdale from its previous owners, National Express.
During that period, McGill’s has invested a total of £32.5million, assisted by some grant funding from the Scottish Government, in 68 all-electric buses for its operations across Scotland.
An Xplore Dundee spokesman told us today: “Alongside their eco credentials, the Electric Emeralds also offer an enhanced travel experience for passengers - complete with comfier high-backed seats, free WiFi and USB charging points.
“The journey is made all the more relaxing with little-to-no noise coming from the bus' electric motor, and the bright, airy interior.”
And they added: “Travelling by bus is a safe and sustainable way to get around; if more people used public transport instead of private cars, there would be less congestion on our streets and less pollution in our air.
“Everybody is welcome aboard these new buses - so get out there, go green and give them a try.”
