'Go Big or Go Home' – Dolly Parton's Maximalist (Yet Traditional) Christmas Tree Taps into 2025's Most Over the Top Holiday Decor Trend

Dolly Parton.

Dolly Parton has never been one for subtlety, and Christmas is not the time to start. This year, we're taking notes from the singer's unapologetically over-the-top decor style.

The icon herself shared her Christmas tree idea in an Instagram post last year wishing fans a happy holiday from her charming, country style home in Brentwood, Tennessee. It features a silver, gold and green color scheme, with each surface covered in seasonal flair. Red ribbon (like this one from Amazon) adorns the tree and stretches across the piano. From the oversized ornaments on the tree to the large star on top, to the garlands draped over the mantel, every inch is an ode to Christmas.

According to designers, Dolly's style aligns perfectly with this year's Christmas trends. Josh Branigan, Interiors Expert at homeware retailer Cuckooland predicts the rise of 'Go Big or Go Home' design for Christmas 2025, where we are seeking bolder, more over-the-top, and eye-catching designs than ever before.

Josh explains: 'We’re going bigger and bolder with festive decorations this year. Oversized trimmings will be used for a bolder statement, adding festive cheer and drama. Eye-catching pieces will include large bows - and plenty of them, according to this year’s trends - and gigantic baubles for a show-stopping effect.'

Recreate Dolly's Look at Home

What is the reason for this bigger, bolder shift? Not only is it stunning, but it also taps into this year's desire for bringing joy and brightness into our holiday interiors. An impulse similar to nostalgia, 2025's decor embodies a longing to capture the happiness of celebrating Christmas as a child.

Josh states: 'Oversized decor creates visual impact and can serve as focal points throughout the home. This theme follows similar impacts of other festive trends to inject joy with an eclectic yet stylish aesthetic.'

Though minimalism has its time and place, Dolly Parton's tree shows that Christmas is not either. When our decor gets bolder and brighter, so does the joy of the holidays. This Christmas, we suggest thinking about how you can make your holiday display more over-the-top than you might have previously considered.
