I remember how much fun it was playing in the mud as a kid. Hell, I still do it as an adult with my own kids. Last week, we were streaking through some mud holes with my daughter's ATV and loving it.
But the act of getting dirty, plowing through a massive wallow, kicking up ice-cold muddy water, and getting caked in mud takes on a new meaning when you're talking about Mud Nats, the gnarliest ATV event around. It's basically Sturgis and Rolling Thunder combined with the sort of muddy quicksand that '90s and early aughts television shows made us so terrified to encounter, even though we'll never actually find.
Mud Nats is a part, a festival, and a muddy good time that parades as an ATV event, which was held at the Sabine ATV Park in Burkeville, TX this year. And Can-Am brought along a handful of the brand's ambassadors and pros to give folks a behind-the-scenes look at just exactly what Mud Nats is.
" Mud Nationals 2025 — where the mud flies, the revs scream, and the real ones show up ready to raise hell," says Can-Am, adding, "This isn’t a trail ride — it’s a full-blown mud-fueled party with the Can-Am crew at the center of the storm." The brand brought along Kyle Cullen, Kolt Gene, Ostacruiser, and Dustin Jones to this year's High Lifter Mud Nationals event, and based on the above video, and what I've seen from Mud Nats in the past, it looked epic and muddy as all hell.
According to the event's homepage, "During this five-day event, there is no shortage of activities to keep you and your group entertained. There are competitions, games, vendors, concerts and miles of trails to ride and explore. You can test your skills in the mud competitions to win money and bragging rights or you can simply watch and cheer for your favorite racer. Test your skills during the poker run, roll the prize wheel or visit Vendor Village to see the latest products from some of the industry’s leading companies. There are concerts on Friday and Saturday nights or explore the park with open riding 24 hours a day. There is something for everyone!
So you've got so many chances to put your ATVs to the test, along with your riding skills, and ability to wash out the Texas mud from your hair and in between your teeth. And all I have to add is, if anyone's reading this at Can-Am, I'd like to attend next year and get real dirty.
