Go-ahead given for new playground at North Lanarkshire primary school

Plans have been given the go-ahead for a new playground at a North Lanarkshire primary school.

Planners have given the green light for the new playground and teaching area at Cleland Primary.

The proposals for a change of use of ground adjacent to the school were rubber stamped by North Lanarkshire Council earlier this year.

The council report states: “The existing defunct bike shed and stored shed on the existing playground are to be removed and a disabled access will be formed between the existing playground and landscaped area.

“Due to the existing playground sitting higher than the landscaped area steps are proposed on the eastern corner.

“It is considered that the proposed change of use is considered acceptable and will not harm the surrounding area and is considered to be a positive change of use which the school can make good use of.”

No objections were received in relation to the plans.

When the proposals were first proposed earlier this year, Cleland councillor Louise Roarty said: This will ensure that pupils and staff will have additional space to learn and play in addition to being able to better adhere to social distancing guidelines which may be with us for some time into the future.

“Local councillors have been asked if we wish to object to any part of these proposals, but I’m sure all of our local politicians, regardless of party, will get behind what is a common sense plan to invest in one of our schools.

“This Labour administration has always valued investment in our schools and I’m delighted that substantial funding is finding its way to our communities.”
