GNIDA selects company to develop 2 wrestling courts in a sports complex

GREATER NOIDA: The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has selected a private company to develop two wrestling courts with 12x12 sqm rings for each court at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium, popularly called Greater Noida Sports Complex.

While there will be one soft and the other hard court, construction will start in two weeks. The project will cost Rs 60 lakhs.

“We have selected the company M/s Pankaj Jain, known for manufacturing wrestling courts, to develop the same facility in Greater Noida Sports Complex. They will begin construction work in two weeks,” said AK Arora general manager (projects) GNIDA.

Since a lot of emphasis is being laid on increasing sports facilities in the villages under ‘Khelo India’ drive, Narendra Bhooshan CEO GNIDA directed officials to provide sports facilities to local youths. Subsequently, 4 hectares of space was earmarked at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium in Sector 37 where, apart from other sports such as badminton, table tennis, swimming etc; two wrestling courts will come up soon, said Arora.

The wrestling courts will be built in 50 x 15 metre area of the 4-hectare space of the stadium and will comprise of two rings – one soft and the other hard. “These two rings will be made of 12 x 12 square meters. Apart from the rings, there will also be a changing room, toilet and a spectator gallery for people to watch the wrestling tournaments,” said Arora adding that the cost of developing the two wrestling rings is around Rs 60 lakhs.

CEO Bhooshan has directed speedy completion of the work given the interest of many local youths in the sport. “We welcome the upcoming wrestling facility at Greater Noida Sports Complex as there are many youths engaged in bodybuilding and wrestling sports in the city as well as in GB Nagar district. They stand to benefit from this facility,” said Alok Singh a local resident.
