A party atmosphere erupted across Greater Manchester as soon as the referee blew the final whistle.

Fans in Stevenson Square were captured singing and chanting after Harry Kane's dramatic goal from a penalty rebound in the 104th minute of the game.

Friends hoisted each other aloft and shirts were ripped off in celebration.

A number of police were pictured standing-by, and were forced to step in as revellers began climbing on top of bus shelters.

Greater Manchester Police have this morning (Thursday) confirmed that officers made three arrests at Stevenson Square.

Two women have have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.

They remain in custody for questioning.

A male was also arrested for breach of the peace but was de-arrested a short time later, police said.

Most of the party did however pass without trouble.

A giant inflatable football could be seen being tossed among the crowd - and England flags were held aloft amid the singing.

The party atmosphere was replicated in Rusholme on Wilmslow Road.

A spokesperson for GMP confirmed: "There were three arrests in Stevenson Square last night - two women were arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer and criminal damage.

"A male was also arrested for breach of the peace but was de-arrested a short while later.
