GMG Racing Takes On Porsche Carrera Cup Finale At COTA

GMG Racing will field it's biggest entry of the season this weekend at the Circuit Of The Americas (COTA) in the hope for podium success. GMG RACING.

AUSTIN, Texas —  GMG Racing is one of the top teams in the Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America, and they’re bringing their biggest entry of the season to the finale at Circuit of The Americas (COTA). This is a great opportunity for fans of Porsche racing to see some of the best drivers in the world compete on a world-class track.

The Formula 1 United States Grand Prix will feature a race from the Porsche series, America’s premier single-make series. COTA is a fantastic track for racing, and it’s sure to be a thrilling event. The track is fast and flowing, with a mix of high-speed straights and technical corners. This will test the skills of the drivers and the capabilities of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.

Kyle Washington, a longtime GMG driver has been successful in Porsche single-make series competition. He will be looking to continue his recent podium success run in the Pro-Am class in his No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the COTA finale.

GMG racing driver Kyle Wasgington (L) and James Sofronas (R), GMG racing founder in a previous race. Washington looks to continue his recent podium success run in the Pro-Am class in his No. 32 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup at the COTA finale this weekend. JAMES SOFRONAS FB.

“I had some family obligations I wasn’t going to miss last time around so I am really looking forward to getting back to COTA,” said Washington. “That track is sick. It’s just so flowy, with elevations. It’s nice and new. It’s got to be one of the best tracks in the world. It’s really amazing with the Carrera Cup coming there, with the fans for Formula 1, the energy is going to be electric,” he added.

“Kyle runs flat out in a full schedule of racing all of the time and I have been very impressed with his recent pace and performance,” said GMG Racing Founder and Principal James Sofronas in a media statement.

“He is literally jumping from 992 Carrera Cup cars to 991 Porsches and then back to 992 Sprint Challenge cars and not missing a beat. In fact, if he wouldn’t been taken out by another competitor in the second Carrera Cup race at Rennsport Reunion, Kyle would be a perfect 10-for-10 in Porsche series podiums over the last month or so. He has never driven better and I only see it improving,” added Sofronas.

Blake McDonald is a young driver who made his Carrera Cup debut last month at Rennsport Reunion in the No. 11 GMG Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. He had a strong debut, and he is looking forward to competing in his second Carrera Cup weekend at COTA.

Both Washington and McDonald are talented drivers with a chance to succeed at the COTA finale. Washington has a lot of experience in the Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America, and he is currently second in the Pro-Am championship standings. McDonald is a new driver to the series, but he impressed with his performance at Rennsport Reunion.

As the team prepares to close out its professional racing season for 2023, GMG will field three 992 Carrera Cup entries in Saturday’s and Sunday’s sprint races on the 3.4-mile COTA Grand Prix circuit.
