GMFB tabs Vikings QB Kirk Cousins as a dark horse MVP candidate

Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins got off to a rocky start in his first year with the Vikings.

However, a system change led to more consistent performances, and the Vikings went 10-6 in the regular season and won a playoff game in 2019.

After catching the ire of certain Vikings fans in his first year with the team, Cousins surprised some people this year.

Kyle Brandt of Good Morning Football thinks Cousins could be a surprising candidate for the 2020 NFL MVP. Brandt listed Cousins as a dark horse for the award, saying there are some incredible things about his game.

Here’s what else he said about the Vikings quarterback:

“With a clean pocket, he is the best-rated passer in the NFL,” Brandt said. “He was more effective on play-action than anybody. And now he’s got a healthy Dalvin (Cook). He’s got Gary Kubiak calling the offense. He’s got a rookie wideout from LSU who just wants to ball and doesn’t care about anything. I think, in a weird season … Kirk Cousins hoisting the MVP trophy, on the back of a 12-4 season would be incredible and I think my dark horse candidate — give me Kirk Cousins — and I do like that.”

I think it’s safe to say Vikings fans would be pretty thrilled with a 12-4 season and Cousins winning MVP. Maybe Brandt’s prediction comes true, and Cousins proves more people wrong in the process.
