GMFB says Bengals should be telling teams they’re drafting Joe Burrow

The narrative surrounding the Cincinnati Bengals and possible top-overall pick Joe Burrow continues to shift.

With the idea Burrow doesn’t want to be a member of the team exhausted (disclaimer: only for now, it’s sure to come back), the chatter has now shifted to what the Bengals are or aren’t saying.

Here’s an interesting comment from a host on GMFB:

“He’s an Ohio kid, you need a quarterback, it’s the perfect fit. Whether he’s wearing pom-poms to be a Bengals, I don’t know. You should be out there telling everybody, ‘yes, we’re taking Joe Burrow No. 1 no matter what.'”

And that’s at least fair enough, right? Stating the intention with the first pick out loud will perhaps give teams that want to trade an understanding of what’s at stake.

But this also seems to be a case of the media getting ahead of itself. It’s still only February. The Bengals were always going to take their time going through due diligence and indeed, nothing is decided yet. And for better or worse, this in the past has been an organization that has kept a shroud of secrecy around it.

The Bengals didn’t get Burrow at the Senior Bowl and it’s still early in the process, which would explain why they haven’t stated he’s the pick. And maybe they never do. If it hits early April and it still seems like the Bengals are wishy-washy on it, then there might be a problem.
