GMFB analyst tabs Dede Westbrook to his top-10 breakout players list

Last season, Jacksonville Jaguars fans witnessed receiver Dede Westbrook take a big step as he was able to acquire his career-high in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns (66 catches, 717 receiving yards and five touchdowns). And while some believe the Jags lack talent around Nick Foles, Westbrook’s under-the-radar season proves that the Jags’ skill guys are being overlooked by most in the national media in particular.

However, one person who isn’t overlooking Westbrook is “Good Morning Football” analyst Peter Schrager. In Wednesday’s episode, he tabbed Westbrook to the No. 6 spot of his top-10 list of breakout players for 2019. In a nutshell, the reason for that was a change at quarterback and offensive coordinator, which should help him maximize the talent fans witnessed in 2018.

Schrager is right in terms of Westbrook being similar to John DeFilippo’s former receiver in Stefon Diggs as both have a very dangerous trait: versatility. Both Westbrook and Diggs are strong in the slot and the outside and that could make him a primary target in DeFilippo’s scheme. Additionally, most would agree that Westbrook has already been Foles’ favorite and most effective target a week into camp, and it certainly could carry into the future.

Last week Westbrook talked about the Jags offense needing to let the love of the game fuel them better, so it appears he’s mentally prepared to lead the pack by example. That said, fantasy owners would be wise to target Westbrook as a sleeper pick because he could be up for some big numbers in 2019.
