GMCH chosen for treating gastro cases

CHANDIGARH: While the Sector 48 hospital has been converted into dengue/malaria hospital, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, which has been getting 15-20 daily cases of gastroenteritis for four days, has been dedicated to manage such cases.

Sources said verbal directions have been issued to GMCH not to take outside Tricity cases as it has been putting a load on resources. “During Covid surge as well, this direction was issued. Most of these cases which are being referred here are manageable at district level hospitals,” said an official in the health department. PGI has been seeing a rise in scrub typhus. “We are seeing some cases of typhus coming with gastroenteritis. There is a huge rush of patients with dengue and scrub typhus,” said a doctor in PGI.
