GMB viewing figures published after turbulent week

More than a million people a day have tuned in to watch Good Morning Britain this week.

On Tuesday, the day after the Duchess of Sussex's interview with Oprah Winfrey was shown on ITV, 1.29 million people tuned in to see Piers Morgan's reaction, reports The Mirror.

His comments sparked more than 41,000 complaints and saw the host quit the show for good.

On Wednesday, hours after Morgan had quit, 1.21million people tuned in again to see Susanna Reid and Ranvir Singh host the show together.

Morgan has already been linked to two new UK news channels, as he refused to apologise or back down from his comments about Meghan Markle.

Susanna Reid opened Wednesday's edition of GMB with a statement about Morgan, and said the show would go on - a spokesman for Reid says she will keep appearing on GMB as normal.

Co-host Kate Garraway spoke on air to say her friendship with Morgan would continue while Dr Hilary Jones defend him as a 'champion of the little people'.

Morgan has said he will not return to GMB despite 200,000 people signing petitions.

*Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
