GMB viewers react to 'painful' show as Piers Morgan replaced by Ben Shephard

Good Morning Britain returned to screens on Monday morning after a week full of drama.

Susanna Reid was back to front the ITV news programme while Piers Morgan was replaced by Ben Shephard as the show's new week begins.

It comes after Piers' dramatic exit last week, announced by bosses on Tuesday evening, hours after he stormed off set in a tense row live on GMB with co-star Alex Beresford over his comments about Meghan Markle.

Piers came under fire after he said he didn't believe the Duchess of Sussex' statement she had suicidal thoughts while pregnant with son Archie and serving as full-time member of the Royal Family.

On Friday, the 55-year-old said he left GMB after refusing to apologise for 'disbelieving' Meghan's claims and that he has become "the latest ‘victim’ of the cancel culture."

But as GMB returned this morning, not everyone was impressed.

"Ben’s a nice guy but he ain’t a Piers replacement #gmb," wrote one.

Another said: "Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear, @ITV and @GMB need to write a book on how to kill a leading television show in a week. This is painful.... it’s turned into an OAP social day out BRING BACK PIERS."

"I used to watch @GMB #gmb because, despite @piersmorgan being extremely annoying and acting like the universe revolves around him, seeing the debate and passionate arguments between hosts and guests made it interesting. Now it's just boring and sedative," a third added.

A fourth commented: "How dull is @GMB without @piersmorgan?! Might have to switch to @BBCBreakfast or just not bother turning on the tv in the mornings."

Others, however, disagreed.

"It’s lovely to hear a proper debate again. Sorry Piers Morgan fans, there is no question that the voices of others are being heard again. It’s a huge relief to see that we can have civilised non-polarised debate again. #GMB," tweeted on.

Another said: "#GMB feels loads better without Piers. People seem to be able to get a word in edgeways."

"Love seeing Susanna and Ben on the show today! Both of them are a breath of fresh air and it’s so hear her actually speak without someone shouting," a third added.
