GMB viewers have their say on Piers Morgan leaving ITV breakfast show

Viewers have taken to social media to express their views on the news Piers Morgan has quit the ITV series Good Morning Britain.

The presenter was confirmed to be leaving with immediate effect following a backlash about his recent on-air comments about The Duke and Duchess of Sussex following their television interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Ofcom announced an investigation into Morgan's comments after 41,000 complaints were logged against him, a 15-year high.

The announcement, which came out on Tuesday evening (March 9) means that he will not return to the ITV show, despite a record high in ratings announced on Monday, reports MirrorOnline.

ITV announced in a statement: "Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.

"ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add."

Many viewers of the programme were happy to see the back of the divisive presenter and his combative style, with one saying: "Good Morning Britain might actually be watchable now."

Another viewer wrote: "I bet there is a lot of happy people at #GMB in front and behind the cameras, of the news about Piers. Sadly he only has himself to blame."

Yet another said: "Absolute right decision. ITV can't promote get Britain talking and have a host of the first show in the morning talk down Meghan's bad thoughts.

"Then he gets called out by his Co host and after 30 seconds storms off. Accountability is everything. Piers needed to go."

This was echoed by another viewer who said: "Well that's the first right decision, now please let the second right decision be to replace Piers Morgan with @alexberesfordTV?"

Fans of Morgan expressed dismay at his departure, with one commenting: "Sad that I won’t get my daily fix on GMB now. We all know that Piers Morgan could be too outspoken at times but he is great entertainment of a morning! The ratings will drop drastically!!

"Who else is going to ask these politicians the right questions??"

Another said: "The world's gone nuts. Gutted that you have left."

"Just like most terrestrial tv. #GMB will be now unwatchable without Piers Morgan," said yet another, warning: "Don't be surprised if he starts his own online show like lots are doing these days."

Another tweet read: "Well I’m quite sad that @piersmorgan has left GMB. I agreed with him on the H & M subject and I think it’s a shame that ITV would rather pander to snowflakes than allow someone to challenge things."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
