GMB viewers 'forced to rewind' after Richard Madeley's hilarious blunder

Good Morning Britain viewers were 'forced to rewind' today after Richard Madeley made a hilarious blunder.

The much-loved presenter, who was standing in for Piers Morgan, 'went full Alan Partridge' during a discussion on students' drinking habits.

This came after it was announced that Goldsmiths University has banned all beef from campus in a bid to become carbon neutral by 2025.

Presenter Kate Garraway linked this to a survey revealing that one in six students are teetotal and some spend more time in the library than the bar in fresher's week.

This hit a nerve with co-host Richard, who refused to believe that this was the case, before making a major gaffe.

Richard exclaimed: "I don’t believe that. I just don’t believe it. My kids were students. Okay it was a bit of a while ago."

Kate joked that these sort of stats might be put out by parents just before students start.

However, Richard suggested: "I think it's because everybody, students and the rest of us, lie about how much they drink.

"Apparently if you tell the GP how much you drink he immediately…or she… doubles it by two."

Good Morning Britain viewers were in disbelief and flocked to Twitter after watching Richard's blunder.

One viewer asked: "Did Richard Madeley really just say "doubles it by two"?"

"Double it by two??? I thought you were an intelligent man Richard," added another,

A third said: "Richard Madeley goes full Partridge again!"

"Richard Madeley is always worth a watch. Mostly because I don't think even he knows what's going to come out of his mouth next," added a fourth.

Charlotte Hawkins then claimed that her nephew went to university and managed to drink sensibly.

When she revealed that he studied hard and didn't drink too much, Richard claimed that was just what he told her.

Should Richard get a permanent slot on GMB?
