GMB viewers blast Barry Manilow interview as an ‘absolute car crash’

Good Morning Britain viewers were less than impressed about a rather awkward interview with Barry Manilow earlier today.

The legendary singer appeared on the ITV show via videolink to discuss his upcoming tour and impressive career - but technical issues meant it didn’t go very smoothly.

Some fans were distracted by the chat, branding it an ‘absolute car crash’.

Poor Barry, 76, also seemed to struggle to hear hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray at moments, leading to a lot of long pauses between questions.

Adil began by asking Barry how he kept going, gushing about his career.

To which Barry replied: “Wait a minute, did you mention Flashy Lady?”

Adil continued: “Yeah, yeah I did. Do you still play it?”

Barry said no just as the music started playing in the background, leading to another awkward pause.

Kate then attempted speak over the music and asked if he still plays the song, but her words were drowned out.

Adil asked for the music to be turned down before posing the question again.

“Is it a song you still perform, Flashy Lady?” Adil tried again.

Barry replied, after a pause: “No, I couldn’t do that even if you held a gun to my head. I wouldn’t know how to do that one.

“But you know there were some nice songs on that album like Could It Be Magic. I think Could It Be Magic is a better one than Flashy Lady.”

Fan Adil then asked Barry about the secret to his longevity, which includes 500 residencies in Las Vegas.

Barry explained: “It’s all about the public, it’s all about the people out there.

“If they want me, they’ve given me this unbelievable life, this unbelievable career.

“As long as they come out, I’ll be there.”

The interview left some viewers cringing and questioning the audio delay.

One tweeted: “The delay does not make anyone look good. Why bother ?”

A second said: “Barry Manilow is being interviewed on GMB at the moment and it's absolute car crash stuff.”

A third said: “They’re literally struggling to stretch out this Barry Manilow interview to 10 minutes. I think the problem is this final half hour.”

But others were delighted that Barry was on the show, hailing him a “music legend”.

“Wow Barry Manilow at 76, amazing. I'm so glad he's doing his UK tour, good luck with that Barry. Keep going. A music legend,” said one.

Another said: “I love that Barry Manilow is close to 80 and still going - despite all the haters.”

GMB airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
