GMB viewers blast Adil Ray over 'vile' comment to Paul Gascoigne as he impresses with fluent Italian

Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray has come under fire from viewers for a 'rude' and 'nasty' comment he made while chatting to Paul Gascoigne.

Gazza was on the ITV show on Wednesday to chat to the presenter and his co-host Susanna Reid about Italian reality show L’Isola dei Famosi - similar to the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Sadly, the former footballer had to be airlifted out of the show, which is filmed in Honduras, after dislocating his shoulder during a challenge.

Gazza's appearance on GMB got off to a good start as the former footballer impressed Adil and Susanna with his ability to speak fluent Italian.

"Gazza, how amazing. You were at Lazio three years, three seasons. I am guessing that is where you picked it up," Adil said as the 53-year-old showed off his language skills.

But viewers were unimpressed after the presenter added: "But to hang on to it after all that time... and you've had a few tipples since then!"

Gazza replied: "When I played in Lazio all I knew was some football words and how to order a beer."

The former England star has had a public battle with alcohol and blasted Adil for his comment.

"Does Adil Ray think it's funny to say to Gazza 'You've had a few tipples since then' and laughing? #GMB," asked one.

Another argued: "Apologised for Gazza saying s**t. But nothing from Adil for saying to Gazza 'how did you remember Italian considering you've had a few tipples since being in Lazio'."

"Why is it acceptable for the presenter to say 'you’ve had a few tipples' to someone who has publicly battled alcoholism for 30 years? Aren’t we supposed to be stopping this kind of thing?" a third questioned.

A fourth fumed: "Wow a new low even from Adil right there about Gazza having a drink. Vile #GMB."

Others, however, were happy to see Gazza back on screen.

"I find Adil so rude, unfunny and patronising #GMB In other news, Gazza is looking and sounding the best I've seen him," tweeted one.

Another said: "Great seeing Gazza looking so well, he will always be a hero! #GMB #COYS."

"I thought Gazza was looking the best he has in years, refreshing to see an interview of him looking well and getting his life back on track #gmb. #AdilRay what a horrid comment to make as he battles brilliantly with his addiction," a third added.

Speaking about how he is now after his injury forced him out the competition, Gazza said: "Now, it's ok. I thought once I got out of the island, I’m going to eat and have a coffee. But I didn't fancy it to be fair.

"It was a great experience. I did have arguments with them [the other celebrities] but it was because they were complaining about not wanting a bit of rice and you look at what’s happening around the world. In general, I thought I did well."
