GMB viewers berate Richard Madeley over Gary Lineker line of questioning

ITV viewers across the nation once more shared their upset at Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley, as the presenter grilled guest Gary Lineker over controversial claims made back in March.

The 67-year-old breakfast show host turned the topic onto Lineker's short feud with the BBC back in March, after the MOTD pundit made claims that the language used in the Tory Governments immigration bill was 'not dissimilar' to language used across Germany in the 1930s.

The spat led to Lineker taking a temporary 'step back' from his duties on the flagship BBC sports show, sparking nationwide outrage as the country debated the fairness of Gary's treatment over his opinion.

And while the turn of events seems now like a distant memory, Madeley wasted no time in bringing up the recent past while interviewing Lineker on Good Morning Britain today - as the 62-year-old appeared to promote his ITV quiz show, Sitting on a Fortune.

Speaking to Lineker, Madeley said: "But what I did do, I disagree with what you'd actually said - which was essentially to compare the British Government today in 2023 to the Nazi Government, the dictatorship in the early 1930s, as you spoke about Britain's immigration policy," as a print screen of Gary's controversial Tweet was shown on screen.

He continued: "Looking back, I mean we all say things that we change our minds about, looking back do you think that was a fair comparison?"

After taking a second to collect his thoughts, Lineker faced the camera and replied: "Well already you've misrepresented what I said, and that's what happened because of the Daily Mail headline which caused this furore in the first place. I didn't compare the Government to the Nazis.

"I didn't talk about the Holocaust, I didn't do any of that. All I said was that some of the language is not dissimilar."

And viewers of the ITV staple were left furious at Madeley's line of questioning, taking to social media to complain about the host. One questioned: "Wtf is wrong with Richard Madeley! His interview with Gary Lineker was repugnant!

"Why is he still trying to be clever and controversial - get rid of him!"

Another, added: "Did you just see his inaccurate line of questioning of Gary Lineker, disgusting," while a third, went on: "Richard was painful in the Gary Lineker interview...seriously, seriously painful."

A fourth, continued: "I can't believe the incorrect questioning of Gary Lineker on GMB, disgraceful," while a fifth, echoed: "Richard Madeley's baiting of Gary Lineker was disgusting @GMB, not a good look for your program."
