GMB star calls Matt Hancock 'd******d' over I'm A Celeb as Susanna Reid swiftly apologises

Good Morning Britain aired an awkward moment on Wednesday as one guest swore live on air, blasting Matt Hancock 's decision to take part in I'm A Celebrity 2022.

Andrew Pierce took aim at the former Health Secretary, leading to host Susanna Reid stepping in to apologise.

The 44-year-old Conservative MP is set to head into the jungle as a latecomer and will join the 10 celebrities, who will head into camp this weekend, later on in the series.

Mr Hancock has been suspended from the Tory whip with immediate effect shortly after it was emerged he signed up for the show.

There's also been a lot of backlash over the news from the public, with his latest venture sparking outrage.

On Wednesday, GMB took some time to discuss the new addition to the series - and it's safe to say the regular panel were not impressed.

The Mirror's Associate Editor Kevin Maguire was joined by The Mail's Andrew Pierce, and the pair spoke with Susanna and Ed Balls who were hosting the latest show.

Things got a bit heated though, as Susanna questioned if she felt sorry for Hancock over the current fury about him signing up for the ITV series.

It's then that as the quartet were discussing whether there was anything good about him being on the show, Andrew Pierce slammed Hancock as a "d******d".

He was immediately left red-faced after realising he shouldn't have said this at half six in the morning, with host Susanna immediately jumping in to call him out.

She shouted: "No, no, you can't say that," before she apologised to viewers for the slip-up.

But Andrew had the backing of several viewers who tweeted that the journalist was "keeping it real".

Meanwhile chief whip Simon Hart spoke of Hancock's suspension after the news broke about him entering the jungle, revealing it was with immediate effect.

He said: "Following a conversation with Matt Hancock, I have considered the situation and believe this is a matter serious enough to warrant suspension of the whip with immediate effect."

As the show opened on Wednesday morning, GMB viewers hit out over the news, as Ed commented on the signing.

Ed said: "Personally I think good luck to him, but I think he is totally crackers to do this. To do it as a sitting MP just brings all these questions.

"I just worry for him, that it's the wrong programme and the wrong timing. But it's going to be fun isn't it? We're looking forward to it."

Viewers quickly slammed Hancock on Twitter over the decision to do the show, as others slammed ITV and the series for being "irresponsible".

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
