GMB's Susanna Reid proud of 'hard hitting' episode as audience increases

Susanna Reid says she is proud of 'hard hitting' Good Morning Britain as the ITV show saw its audience increase year on year at the end of last week.

Susanna was back on GMB last week after a summer break and was joined by guest host Richard Bacon, with the ex Blue Peter star joining the team for a number of weeks.

Friday's instalment of GMB saw Susanna and Richard lead discussions on the unfolding troubles in Afghanistan, after the world was shaken by scenes of people desperately trying to get on rescue planes out of the country as the Taliban took control.

They were joined by Minister of State for the Armed Forces James Heappey, who served in Afghanistan and told them it 'it broke his heart' to hear army colleagues describe their time at war as 'pointless'.

This came after the hosts spoke to Ben Parkinson - the most injured British soldier from the Afghanistan war.

Ben told them the war 'was for nothing' and 'all of the sacrifices that were made were for nothing'.

Friday's GMB, which also featured British marine Pen Farthing, who described the terrifying moment the Taliban turned up outside his door, had a huge reaction from viewers and congratulating the whole of the team as news reached her that ratings were up on the same day last year, Susanna took to Twitter to write: "Very proud of yesterday’s hard-hitting @gmb - and the audience agreed. Ratings UP compared to the same day last year. Volume up Share up.

"Well done Team @GMB and thank you to all our guests."

The first of her followers to react told Susanna: "OK, I’m going to be constructive. Reid is a yes. Bacon was good, even Martin Lewis did better than expected.

"Sadly Garraway and Shepherd past their sell by dates. Alistair Campbell was atrocious, Hawkins 50/50. Beresford and Singh are utterly unwatchable. Jeffrey Archer is ace."

A second reacted: "Why do people still keep on about Piers Morgan, the programme is so much better without him. Susanna is so capable at interviewing, calm and measured. Everyone gets a chance to speak without interruption.

"With Susanna at the helm it will go from strength to strength."
