Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid was joined by Ben Shephard on Thursday's show instead of her usual co host Piers Morgan.
But it appeared to be a welcome change for Susanna, who was fascinated to see Ben's new grey hair coming through.
Susanna gushed over Ben's "grey bits" and asked him how he managed to carry it off so well.
He revealed his wife had cut his hair for him after he attempted to do it himself and almost took his ear off.
Ben returned the compliment and praised Susanna's lack of grey hair, which she admitted was "all smoke and mirrors".
At the start of the show, Susanna said: "Can I just say, you're looking very dapper, did you have a sneaky trip to the hairdresser?"
"My clandestine underground barbers?" joked Ben.
"Yeah Mrs S went at me with the clippers yesterday, i had a go myself when I got a bit bored and I took a bit of a hole at the side so she was evening it up," he explained.
"It's looking very good, it also looks like you've had highlights," replied Susanna.
"What the silver lining?" laughed Ben.
"How come you're able to carry that off but when it happens to me I just have to get the root touch up out?" complained Susanna.
Piers revealed on Wednesday vis Twitter that he would not be starring on Thursday's show.
He replied to a message asking: Can you please let Susanna Reid complete a sentence without interrupting her on GMB tomorrow?"
"Definitely - I'm not in tomorrow," replied Piers.
And viewers pointed out that Susanna seemed much more able to speak while with her alternative co host, Ben, than with opinionated Piers.
One tweeted: "I see Susanna has a speaking part today #GMB @GMB ".
Another joked: "You'd think Susanna would let Ben speak seeing as she suffers trying to speak when Piers is there #GMB ".
