GMB's Rob Rinder in tears at new ITV campaign after 'tough time' for his family

Rob Rinder was left fighting back the tears during today's edition of Good Morning Britain.

The criminal barrister - who many want to see as a permanent host on the show - was unable to speak at one point as he discussed ITV 's new campaign, 1 Million Minutes.

Susanna Reid, 50, was on hand to comfort her co-host during the morning broadcast, explaining to viewers that the legal star and his family had recently endured a "tough time".

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the 1 Million Minutes campaign is looking for volunteers to connect with those who feel lonely across the country - especially after multiple isolating lockdowns.

The straight-talking judge is currently a presenter on the ITV breakfast show (ITV)

On the Wednesday morning's instalment of Good Morning Britain, a new promotional video for the campaign was aired - showing a group of people transform an allotment to support a lonely, elderly man.

Rob, 43, was visibly moved by the clip - created to urge viewers to donate their time to charity.

As the cameras returned to the studio, Susanna noticed the emotion her co-anchor was experiencing.

"Wow, that's beautiful - you're broken," she told the star after watching the clip together.

Unable to express himself with words at one point, a teary Rob admitted it was the second time he had seen the moving segment.

Composing himself, The Judge Rinder star went on to say: "Just so you know, watching that… And how much it has affected me, and should affect everyone, a quarter of a million minutes have already been pledged."

"Now more than ever, we know how important being alongside each other at Christmas is," he emotionally continued.

"You can make more money but you can't make more time, it's the most beautiful thing you can give."

After his poignant feedback, Susanna physically consoled her colleague and said: "That resonated with you."

"I'm sorry, god, good thing my mascara isn't running!" Rob replied to his sympathetic co-host.

"Loneliness is one thing that young and old people experience and it is something we can actually do something about, that's the critical thing."

Susanna went on to reveal that Rob has had a "tough time" of late.

"It's been a tough time for your family," she sensitively said to him and the viewers watching at home.

Rob opted not to share too much about his personal circumstances, instead sympathising with those going through similar turmoil.

"And lots of other people as well," he bravely replied to Susanna on Wednesday's show.

As well as supporting ITV's Britain Get Talking campaign, the 1 Million Minutes campaign has also teamed up with charities who are all doing incredible work including; Alzheimer's Society, Alzheimer's Research UK, Grief Encounter, Crisis, Re-Engage, Chatty Cafe Scheme and the Royal Voluntary Service.
