GMB's Richard Madeley accused of talking 'twaddle' as he clashes with RMT chief

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley was stunned on Tuesday's show as British trade unionist Mick Lynch accused him of talking 'twaddle'.

Richard was hosting the ITV breakfast show alongside Ranvir Singh when they spoke to Mr Lynch live from London's Euston station.

Millions of Brits are experiencing travel chaos today as they're caught up in a massive train strike that is the biggest in a generation after last ditch talks failed to reach agreement.

Up and down the country people are being affected, with only a fifth of services running and half of lines closed due to the dispute over pay, jobs and conditions - with all sides blaming each other for the lack of progress.

As Richard and Ranvir began the chat with Mr Lynch, father-of-two Richard asked him: "Now, are you or are you not a Marxist? Because if you are a Marsixt then you're into revolution and in to bringing down capitalism. So are you or aren't you?"

"Richard, you do come up with the most remarkable twaddle sometimes, I gotta say. Opening an interview with that is nonsense," Mr Lynch replied laughing.

Richard was clearly taken aback by his comment and fired back: "Woah, woah, I didn't say you are a Marxist, I'm saying that you are being accused of being a Marxist and that's called reporting!"

"No I'm not a Marxist, I'm an elected official of the RMT, I'm a working class bloke leading a trade union dispute about jobs, pay, conditions and service," Mr Lynch then said.

GMB viewers were not overly impressed with Richard either and took to Twitter to comment.

One person tweeted: "Reporting the strike without talking about the the reasons for the strike is just vile. Absolutely sh*te reporting. #GMB."

Another said: "Get Richard Madley off the telly please. Another idiot Tory blaming 'the left' for the strikes. Sorry but who's been in government the past 12 years? Bloody hell! #GMB."

A third person fumed: "Why is #GMB not talking to RMT members who are paid terrible wages and are struggling rather than focusing on blaming union members for causing travel chaos!! FFS!"

Someone else posted: "Oh slap me on the a*se traffic is busy?! Really?!why not talk about the reasons for the strike and not the pathetic voxpox of consequences. #GMB."

And many were in support of Mr Lynch as one person tweeted: "#GMB #TubeStrike That was brilliant, how good was Mick Lynch. Richard was so bend out of shape, twaddle, lolz."

Another said: "Mick Lynch is total class, comes across as a very caring gentleman! #gmb."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
