GMB's Piers Morgan 'packs his bags' over fears he could be axed from ITV role

Piers Morgan could be ‘packing his bags’ at Good Morning Britain if history repeats itself following award recognition.

It was revealed today that the 55-year-old presenter has been awarded GQ magazine’s TV Personality of the Year.

The magazine praised Piers for his ‘fearless questioning’ of the UK Government amid the coronavirus pandemic.

But GQ awards have been a bad omen for Morgan over the years.

In 2003, he was named Newspaper Editor of the Year before losing his job at the Daily Mirror.

Piers was also named TV Personality of the Year before his US show was cancelled due to low ratings.

When he was notified of this year’s nomination, Piers considered that he might be in for a third stroke of bad luck.

"I lost both the jobs I won the awards for within a few months of the ceremonies, which rather took the gloss off things," Piers reflected in his Daily Mail column.

With this year's nomination for TV Personality Of The Year being linked to his role on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Piers questioned whether it was a 'risk' to accept.

He added: "Obviously, my first thought was ‘BOOM!’… and my second thought was ‘Oh no, I really enjoy doing Good Morning Britain’.

"Was it worth the risk to accept? I concluded it was, given that just walking out of our front doors these days presents a real and present danger to our lives.

"I do feel genuinely chuffed, though, even if I now have to start pre-emptively packing my GMB bags."

Piers has been selected for the award due to his efforts holding the government to account and being a 'vocal critic' in their handling of the pandemic.

No government ministers were brave enough to face Piers on his show until recently when Matt Hancock finally stepped up to the challenge.
