GMB's Laura Tobin predicts Easter weekend heatwave but warns risk of Saharan dust

Good Morning Britain's Laura Tobin says temperatures in the UK are set to reach highs of 20C this Easter weekend.

The forecaster appeared on this week's first instalment of the ITV show to tell viewers figures are set to be "way above average" for the time of year - but warned there will be risk of more Saharan dust.

Laura said: "Weather-wise this week things are set to warm up", and although temperatures around this time of year tend to be between 11-14C, numbers are expected to be "way above average". "Fantastic news", she said, for anyone hoping for a summery bank holiday weekend.

But the forecast came with a warning, Somerset Live reports. Laura said it was bad news if you've recently washed your car.

She said: "Another thing to look out for, more Saharan dust on the way. That means there will be some beautiful sunsets and sunrises through the next few days, but we'll see some of that Saharan sand on the cars moving through south-eastern areas of England."

Last month, skies over Liverpool and Merseyside were tinted orange and pink as a Sahara dust storm moved through the UK. As well as being linked to colourful skies, these dust clouds can affect air quality. The European Union’s Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service said the large cloud “degraded air quality across large parts of Spain, Portugal and France”.

For the coming week, Laura said there will be showers at times but "it is set to warm up", with temperatures predicted to reach highs of 20C by Good Friday. Maximum temperatures are on course to fall between 18-19C on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, before climbing into the low 20s by Thursday and Friday.
