GMB's Kate Garraway shocks viewers as she revisits awkward 'tongue action' encounter

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway had viewers gobsmacked on today's show as she recalled awkward 'tongue action' with a giraffe.

The presenter revealed she once got a little bit too close to a giraffe and their "extraordinarily long tongues" - as was once shown live on TV.

The 54-year-old and fellow GMB presenter Richard Madeley were talking as a clip of a giraffe was shown on Thursday's programme.

It was then Kate shared her her awkward moment with one.

She said: "I once had a giraffe take some food out of my mouth. In Kenya, I was eating a croissant and it wasn't even that close! It was all tongue action.

"They are amazing, amazing animals."

The pair were laughing away as the 54-year-old shared her awkward encounter.

Richard agreed, before adding that when he heads home he normally drives past London Zoo and he said he would often stop to look at the animals.

One user wrote on Twitter: "So Kate likes a giraffe's tongue action..."

While another was left convinced that Kate was waiting for Richard to follow up with a story of his own, writing: "Kate is waiting for Madeley to say something embarrassing..."

Kate's revelation came shortly after the presenter gave an update on her husband Derek Draper's condition, who caught coronavirus at the start of the pandemic.

The presenters were discussing the NHS 3% pay rise offer with Kate supporting the decision after recalling how nurses saved her partner's life.

She said: "If it was up to me you couldn't pay them enough.

"It's absolutely extraordinary what all members of the NHS did, but particularly nurses, their detail.

"They were getting their head around technology, it's the detail in a critical situation like that with a virus that nobody knew at the point when Derek got sick, the impact it was going to have.

"The detail of blood pressure and cell count, a lot of that is all passed to the nurses and very much on their shoulders. It's getting that right that makes all the difference."

GMB continues tomorrow on ITV from 6am.
