GMB's Kate Garraway praises helpful police at horror accident but slams AA's reaction

Good Morning Britain 's Kate Garraway thanked the Kent Police for their help when her tyre exploded on a busy motorway at the weekend.

But she added the AA were of no help as she phoned them and they asked if she could move to a quieter spot while she was stranded on a busy motorway.

However, she thanked "brilliant" Liz and Mark from Kent Police, Jordan from the AA and Jo from Next in Sittingbourne Road Retail Park.

"I don't want to diss the AA at all because I don't know what challenges they've got in terms of COVID, and lack of staff, and a Sunday," she said.

"It was very hard to get through, and when we did get through it was very hard to communicate because they kept saying, 'Can you get to a place of safety?' and I said, 'No, that's the problem!'

"They kept saying, 'Can you go somewhere quieter to speak?' and I said, 'No I can't because are on a motorway and there are trucks coming past!'

"Kent Police came along, they spoke to the AA and said, 'We've got to get her off the motorway', they were still saying an hour.

"And eventually, Mark said, 'I know this area there's an M&S and a Next nearby, that's all you need.'

She went on: "Jordan at the AA, she deserves a pay rise, and things started to look brighter."

Kate also joked that Liz got into her car to drive it "one metre an hour" and she asked if all the mess inside was because she was forced to pull over in such a rush.

She eagerly agreed that that was why her car was in that state - but in reality it was just a mess anyway.

She explained that at last the AA had offered to change her tyre but she admitted "I was too shaken to drive".

"So I left my key with [Jo], she said, 'I'll look after it'."

She added: "The police said, 'You did brilliantly'."

She also revealed she had been trying to get home quickly to check on her husband Derek Draper, who is recovering from a coma after a tough battle with coronavirus.
