GMB's Kate Garraway outfit savagely compared to 'bag of Chewits' by Richard Arnold

Kate Garraway 's wardrobe was compared to a “bag of Chewits” by Richard Arnold on Good Morning Britain.

On Friday’s instalment of the ITV breakfast show, Richard was towards the end of presenting his entertainment-focused segment when he spotted friend and co-star Kate Garraway in the studio.

After handing back to co-star Pip Tomson, Richard then said: “Sorry, I’ve just been rather thrown by Kate popping into the studio. She looks like a bag of Chewits.”

A shocked laugh was heard off-camera, apparently from Kate as Richard laughed himself before walking off the set.

Pip then commented: “He is so rude! Let’s get Alex with the weather now, who’s much less rude.”

Later, as Ben Shephard and Kate got stuck into their presenting after introducing the headlines, Ben began laughing.

Kate, who was dressed in a psychedelic patterned blouse with purple trousers, then asked: “What’s your problem?”

Ben then remarked: “Well, as Richard said, you’ve come as a packet of Chewits.”

“I’ve come as a packet of Chewits,” repeated Kate, “I have.”

Former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, who was wearing an orange dress, then revealed that Richard had told her: “Thank you for coming as a pumpkin.”

Ben commented: “There’s a fuel crisis, the pumpkins might not be there. Singlehandedly, you are the personification of what we need: Kate’s trying to raise the temperatures, and you’re coming as a Halloween pumpkin.”

Kate then remarked: “We are facing another winter of discontent, which was the winter of ’79, was it? So I\m trying to bring the early 70s, the free love. The Age of Aquarius.”

However, this was noted by Iain Dale to be from the 1960s, but Ben then remarked: “Tales of the Unexpected.”

“We’re desperately trying to bring joy this morning, even with our wardrobes,” commented Kate, “it’s pretty bleak.”

Ben remarked that Kate’s clothes often bring joy, and Kate showed off the purple trousers and explained this was the cause of the “bag of Chewits” reference.

*Good Morning Britain airs on weekday mornings from 6am to 9am on ITV with past episodes on ITV Hub.
