GMB's Kate Garraway demands Bristol drama Shoestring be put back on TV

It may have only lasted two years but BBC's Shoestring attracted 20million viewers at its peak, and it seems plenty of them want to see it back on their screens including Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway.

Speaking on the show today (Friday, Jan 7) the broadcaster asked actor Trevor Eve, who starred in the detective drama more than 40 years ago why is was not any streaming platforms.

The Discovery of Witches star, who was appearing to promote the Sky Max show said he didn't know why it as not available [on BBC iPlayer or Britbox] but that he was frequently asked by fans of the show why they could no longer watch it.

Kate Garraway told Trevor Eve: "I have looked and looked for it and I found it to buy on Amazon but why is it not available like other shows from that era are?"

Set in the West Country and mostly filmed in and around Bristol, Shoestring saw Eve play a radio broadcaster turned private detective running around the city solving crimes.

The series was quirky and modern, with central character Eddie Shoestring being a ex-computer operator and former psychiatric patient who shared a house (and sometimes a bed) with legal advisor landlady Erica Bayliss, played by Doran Godwin.

It was the role which made Trevor Eve famous and featured lots of local Bristol landmarks - despite the interiors of the radio station being shot in Ealing.

Various other classic TV shows have made a return to our screens thanks to streaming, but it seems Shoestring is yet to be one of them.
