GMB's Kate Garraway and Martin Lewis in 'tense' clash as they 'fight for last word'

Kate Garraway and Martin Lewis were locked in an awkward clash as they 'fought for the last word' on Good Morning Britain today.

Susanna Reid usually presents alongside Martin but Kate - who normally fills in on Thursdays and Fridays and usually presents with Ben Shephard - was there to host today's episode as they discussed the strikes up and down the country at this time of year.

The pair were hosting the ITV breakfast show as they debated rail strikes in particular, joined by The Mirror's Kevin Maguire and Andrew Pierce. However some fans noticed Kate was getting 'frustrated' by Martin.

As the conversation turned heated, Kate said: "Sorry Martin ... I haven't even got to the point yet," but he continued speaking.

Fans of the show took to Twitter as they noticed the clash between the pair.

"Watching @MartinSLewis cutting over @kategarraway is a little bit awkward. #GMB," one viewer penned, as a second shared: "'There seems to be some tension between Kate and Martin this morning."

A third added: "@GMB OMG how often is @MartinSLewis going to keep interrupting @kategarraway #bring back @edballs please."

Later in the show, Martin had fans in tears as he announced he would be taking a long break from the ITV show.

The Money Saving Expert confirmed he wouldn't be back on the show until March as he would be busy filming his own show after the festive break, but he had one final message for viewers ahead of the end of the year.

Viewers confessed they were in tears as Martin had a sweet tribute to all viewers, but especially those who felt isolated and lonely this time of year, as he shared: " To those of you who will be going through grief and loneliness this Christmas, may you have more smiles than you are expecting. May you have more joy than you are expecting.

"I just hope you get through it and you get through it easily."

Kate was clearly moved by his comment, before she also issued a thank you to him on behalf of their viewers.

She held his arm as she said: "And can I just say, thank you to you. You've really helped a lot of people this year as you always do and we wish you a Merry Christmas as well as I'm sure Lorraine does too."
