GMB's Kate Garraway admits her kids are not looking forward to going back to school

Kate Garraway joked that her two children are not looking forward to going back to school next week, after months of homeschooling.

During Friday's edition of Good Morning Britain, Kate and her co-host Ben Shephard discussed schools reopening on March 8.

Kate, 53, has been raising her kids Darcey and William alone for almost one year now after her husband Derek Draper was hospitalised with Covid-19.

"It is the last day, Kate Garraway, of homeschooling," Ben announced, as they began their discussion.

"There’s a lot of people very excited about that - apart from my kids! Who are basically not being schooled by me!" Kate joked.

"So therefore, are facing up to the reality of having to get their heads around some education!"

Ben, 46, added: "There is definitely a benefit of having schooled your children to make them realise how brilliant their teachers are, and desperately want them to get back to school."

Kate then continued: "Actually to be honest, they are very excited about seeing friends at school and getting back into the swing of it. But probably not as excited as mums and dads out there!"

It comes after it was reported that Kate will share the agony of husband Derek's Covid battle in new TV show.

Finding Derek, a one-off documentary special will focus on the devastating impact that the coronavirus has had on Good Morning Britain star, and her entire family.

During the first UK lockdown in March 2020, Derek, 53, was rushed to hospital after contracting the deadly virus.

Derek has since been cleared of Covid, but the virus has left extensive damage to his organs, and he still remains incredibly ill one year later.

The former lobbyist and author has been unable to gain consciousness from his induced coma and is still currently in intensive care.

The new TV special will offer intimate details into Derek’s current state of health, and his adoring wife will share vital insight into how she coped with the life-changing situation.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
