Ed Balls believes Meghan Markle made a 'terrible decision' by not attending King Charles III's Coronation on Saturday.
The Duchess of Sussex decided not to attend the ceremony in Westminster Abbey despite being invited, choosing instead to stay at home in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Prince Harry attended the Coronation alone but headed to Heathrow Airport immediately after it finished so he could be back Stateside to spend time with Archie on his fourth birthday.
Meghan's decision not to attend the Coronation clearly hit a nerve with former politician Ed, who made his feelings clear on Monday's Good Morning Britain.
Royal Commentator Roya Nikkhah appeared on the show to discuss the King's Coronation as well as the 'future of the monarchy'.
At one point, the panel discussed Prince William and Kate Middleton's children, Charlotte, George, and Louis.
Roya said: "I think she's gonna be a very reliable spare," which prompted Ed to switch the conversation to Meghan.
He said: "I mean, I felt that Harry and Meghan made a terrible decision for Meghan not to come in the end. They lost from that...
"The moral high ground was handed over at that moment."
Roya defended the couple and said she was "pleased for Harry" that he made the decision to make an appearance.
"That was the right decision. I felt a bit sad. Ultimately, I'd be watching him walk in with his cousins but then process on his own up the aisle," she said.
"He cut such a solitary figure there. I think he'd have been pleased he came. I thought it was sad how quickly he came and went Megan obviously made the decision to be with her children.
"But ultimately, I think the king would have been delighted his son was there."
Kate Garraway also defended the royal couple and said: "With Harry, Meghan would have been damned if she came, damned if she didn't."
It was previously reported that Meghan decided not to attend as it would be "inauthentic".
Insiders said Meghan "stayed home to celebrate Archie’s birthday because she felt it would be inauthentic to do anything else".
The source told the Mail on Sunday : "She wanted to minimise the drama."
Some reports indicated Harry and his father were in contact ahead of the big day and there have been attempts to clear the air, but the monarch was said to be "understanding" of Meghan's absence.
