Good Morning Britain's Dr Sarah Jarvis has issued a warning to anyone under the age of 40 amid reports that they could become exempt from lockdown rules.
The health expert issued the warning amid claims only certain demographics and groups could be targeted by local lockdowns in the future.
Speaking to Adil Ray and Kate Garraway, Dr Jarvis admitted she didn't think this was a good idea.
She said: "We know children are a much much lower risk, whether they are very young children or teenagers.
"The new evidence that has come out suggesting teenagers may be more likely to transmit has to be balanced against the risks for them.
"But this isn't just about a generation. This virus doesn't just discriminate against generations, it discriminates against deprivation.
"If we say that we're going to lock people down because they are at high risk as soon as they get to over 40, that's going to discriminate against people of South Asian origin, people who have diabetes, people who live in more overcrowded housing, all sorts of people who are already struggling more.
"And there's also the fact that an awful lot of old people would say 'hang on a minute, we have spent our lives working and making this country what it is.'
"And now you are saying you are letting everybody under 40 get out there and do their own thing? And basically the cost for that is we have to be locked away indoors completely?
"Because if the under-40s are out there, spreading the virus, then older people are going to have to hide away in their homes."
