GMB's Dr Sarah Jarvis' fear for Brits shielding as sick pay and deliveries pause

Dr Sarah Jarvis voiced her concerns for Brits shielding as sick pay and deliveries "pause".

Good Morning Britain's doctor wanted to raise awareness about shielding being "paused" on Saturday in the UK and August 14 in Wales amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The medic, 57, has called on the government to clarify what will happen to people who have been shielding if their area goes into lockdown.

New rules have been imposed on Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and East Lancashire as different households cannot meet indoors from Friday.

Some 4.5million people have been affected by the new lockdown rules.

Dr Jarvis called for answers on Friday's instalment of the breakfast show after she specifically requested to address the topic.

She said: "Many were worried this month because they had been told don't leave their home or garden or go for a walk. Now told yes, you can come out.

"End of shielding tomorrow apart from Wales.

"Sick pay goes, food deliveries end but there's no clarity if someone who has been shielding and their area goes into lockdown, what will happen to them?

"We really need to clarify that."
