GMB's Dr Hilary warns second coronavirus wave is 'inevitable'

Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary Jones said a second coronavirus wave is 'inevitable', as he warned Brits not to become complacent.

A regional flare-up of coronavirus cases means Leicester will not emerge from parts of lockdown as swiftly as the rest of England.

As pubs, restaurants and cafes get ready to reopen across the country from Saturday, residents in Leicester have been told to stay at home, with schools and shops to shut this week.

Speaking about the latest update, GMB's resident doctor, Dr Hilary said Leicester's lockdown was a sign of the second wave.

"We've seen SARS in recent years, there was swine flu, avian flu and none of them really touched the UK in a significant way.

"So we were very complacent about this, we saw it at the beginning happen in Europe, we thought it's not going to come to these shores.

"We didn't take it seriously enough, people carried on living normally and then suddenly we had this upsurge in case and many deaths."

He added: "Already people are talking about getting back to normal and we haven't really got through the first wave, let alone worrying about the second wave which is inevitable now, we're beginning to see signs of that already.

"But people have lost the fear that they had originally."
