GMB's Dr Hilary reveals chances of children transmitting coronavirus when they go back to school

Dr Hilary has revealed that children are 'less likely to transmit coronavirus than others'.

Appearing on today's instalment of Good Morning Britain, the healthcare specialist told viewers that there is strong evidence to suggest that children 'are more resilient to the virus'.

It comes as schools across the UK are set to re-open on June 1 under part of the government's plan to further ease lockdown restrictions.

However, this has left many teachers and parents concerned over the safety of children should they return next month.

While discussing the matter on the show, hosts Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh asked Dr Hilary about the chances of children transmitting the disease

In response, Dr Hilary revealed that the chances of children transmitting the virus is 'less' than adults do.

The healthcare professional said: "What we do know is that children are transmitting the virus less than others.

"The evidence is pretty strong around the world that children are not only more resilient to the virus but they transmit it to others less than adults do."

He continued: So if you’re working with children, the risk is lower but I do understand the concerns of teachers.

"If the classrooms are big and if children aren’t socially distancing – all of which can be mitigated – then there’s a potential risk and it needs to be worked out."
