GMB’s Dr Hilary points out ‘glaring error’ in new restrictions as he calls for tougher measures

Good Morning Britain 's Dr Hilary Jones has pointed out what he calls a "glaring error" in Prime Minister Boris Johnson's new lockdown measures.

New rules in England included a 10pm closing time for pubs, bars and restaurants, and the "rule of six" means people should not mix in groups any bigger than six people.

Dr Hilary said he believes this does not go far enough, and thinks the number should be reduced to two or even stopping households from mingling at all.

He explained that the R-rate of COVID-19 could shoot up even higher when five people can leave a gathering of six and meet five other friends, and so can their friends, unwittingly infecting several people with the virus.

Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid joked about their fiery confrontation on Tuesday, as Piers asked Hilary if he had "recovered from his savaging".

Hilary laughed and replied: "Who was savaged?"

Speaking about the new lockdown rules and the fact the public have reported in polls they wish the measures would go further, Piers said: "In Scotland, you can't even meet people from another household.

"In England you can meet with six other people from six different households, it doesn't make any sense."

Hilary replied: "This is the one glaring error in which most medical experts agree, that when you have six people meeting up from potentially six different households, the potential for transmission is very significant.

"If it's two households, it's much much less, and of course if you can't visit anybody else indoors in other households as you can't in Scotland, you're going to get the R-rate down.

"The restrictions imposed yesterday don't seem to go quite far enough, they haven't changed much at all.

"This rule of six is an odd one - if six people meet up, five people can go and meet five more people an hour later."
