GMB's Dr Hilary Jones on vaccinating 16 and 17 year olds - they transmit the virus

Dr Hilary Jones has said he would back 16 and 17-year-olds getting the covid vaccine.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the doctor said it would make sense for this age group to get the jabs.

He was speaking this morning (Tuesday, June 22) as the ITV show debated the impact on schools or year groups having to isolate due to cases in schools.

And he said the country doesn't want education to be disrupted any further as it's "already been disrupted significantly with dire effects."

He added of 16-17 year olds: "This age group are very actively socialising, perhaps more than any age group, and they transmit the virus.

"The vaccine is incredibly safe, we've seen it being used in millions of doses for adults, there's no reason to believe it wouldn't be just as safe in that age group.

"We vaccinate them against all sorts of other diseases, beneficially, and it makes sense to me that they are vaccinated."

Currently adults aged 18+ are eligible to book in for their vaccines.
